The
Institute for Non Profit Development attended the April North Quabbin
Community Coalition forum to gather information that they will then submit
along with feedback from other North Central Mass. area forums to the annual
National Nonprofit Congress in June. The Congress’s mission is to empower
individuals and nonprofits to act collectively for positive change. Building
on the belief that nonprofits are essential to a healthy community, the
Nonprofit Congress is guided by shared values from across the country. The
North Quabbin region is able to engage in the process by way of the INPD’s
attendance at the national forum in June.
The group
worked as small groups to ask what some of the strengths of area nonprofit
agencies are along with some of the challenges faced that groups share. The
larger group then reconvened and a cohesive theme soon emerged. The idea
that we are stronger when working collaboratively became very clear, and the
fact that the community is strengthened when various groups work together
for a common goal and toward reaching a goal that meets a community need was
also identified. One of the true strengths of the North Quabbin region is
built upon the very foundation that the Coalition was built on -
collaboration. The NQCC has worked for over twenty-four years to build a
culture that supports the idea that agencies in competition with each other
do not make a stronger community, but when the goal is to serve a community
need, then all agencies and the community at large benefits.
