North Quabbin Sexual Abuse Prevention Project

Our Mission

The North Quabbin Community Coalition’s Sexual Abuse Prevention Project, a component of the C.A.R.E. Task Force, is a community-wide alliance committed to improving the quality of life for all those living and working in the North Quabbin region by working toward the prevention of sexual abuse.

The Task Force is dedicated to building a community where children are empowered by knowledge and skills, and protected by caring adults who take responsibility for keeping children safe.

Enough Abuse Campaign

The NQCSA Prevention Project is one of 3 communities statewide supported by the Mass. Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Partnership with funding from the National Center for Disease Control.

The campaign focus is on adult and community responsibility for child safety and the prevention of sexual assault on children by educating parents, professionals and other residents.

The training promotes understanding of normal sexual development of children as well as warning signs of potential abuse.

Building skills for parents and professionals provides the foundation for a safer community for children.

All trainings are provided to local community groups free of charge.  For more information, visit: www.enoughabuse.org.

Sex Offender Management Project

The North Quabbin region was selected as one of three pilot sites in Massachusetts to develop an innovative approach to the management of sexual offenders. The project uses known best practice methods to prevent re-offending by known registered sex offenders within the community.

The project is funded by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety. A Project Coordinator works in partnership with local law enforcement, courts and others to support implementation of current SORB requirements as well as to coordinate community education events and trainings to dispel myths about offenders and the reality of current law. A Community Advisory Council oversees the project and works to identify policy issues that impact community safety and to advocate for systemic change.

Mark Fitzpatrick is the Sex Offender Management Coordinator for the NQCC. After a statewide one year assessment of best practices in Sex Offender Management, the Executive Office of Public Safety granted the NQ region an opportunity to implement some of the identified practices at the local level.

"To date, my role has been to convene a community advisory council to over see the project and to develop a contingent of local trainers to provide community education forums just like this. I have also been working with local law enforcement to provide additional manpower to conduct field audits to validate the home and employment information provided as part of the standards of the SORB. One of my roles with working with offenders is to offer linkages to other local resources to help keep them in stable employment and housing which are both potential risk factors in re-offending. We now have a local presence in Sex Offender specific treatment with a nationally recognized provider offering both group and individual treatment. I have also been working with local churches to develop safe congregation policies to assist in building a safety for churches to include offenders in a transparent way and maintain the safety of other parishioners".
